🇦🇷 Valid and useful information for users in Argentina.
When you create an account in DolarApp, you can choose two types of cards: Global (white card) or Local (green card). Each has its benefits and purposes. This article helps you understand when and why to use each!
Global card - pay abroad 🌎
It is a card issued outside Argentina that mainly uses your balance in digital dollars (USDc) or digital euros (EURc). In case your USDc or EURc balance is insufficient when making a payment, it will automatically convert from other available balances in your account.
The Global card is only available in virtual format, and you can add it to Apple Pay or Google Pay to pay in-person.
When to use the Global Card? When paying abroad for travel or online purchases. That is, purchases in currencies other than Argentinian pesos (ARS).
Why? Because by primarily using your balance in digital dollars (USDc) or euros (EURc) —which you previously received or purchased— you get the best exchange rate and avoid the income tax surcharge (local cards used abroad charge 30%).
When NOT to use it? When paying in Argentina, for purchases in Argentinian pesos.
Why? It will use your USDc or EURc balance at the exchange rate provided by Mastercard or Visa, which may be less convenient than what you get when converting to Argentinian pesos (ARS) directly in the app.
Payments you make with the Global Card are not eligible for the 1% cashback on local purchases when you are a Premium member.
Local Card - pay in Argentina 🇦🇷
Card issued in Argentina that mainly uses your balance in Argentinian pesos (ARS). The Local card is available in physical and virtual format.
When to use the Local card? When paying in Argentina in Argentinian pesos (ARS).
Why should I use it? Payments made abroad with Argentinian cards are subject to taxes, so the resulting exchange rate is not the most convenient.
Payments you make with the Local Card are eligible for the 1% cashback on local purchases when you are a Premium member.
