Stay safe: Common scam tactics on Social Media and how to protect your DolarApp account

Updated this week

At DolarApp, your security is our top priority. We want to share some important information on common scam tactics we have detected and tips to help you stay protected against scammers.

Fake DM support scam:

  • What: Scammers reply to comments on social media offering “support”. Then they DM you, asking for your registered phone number and the SMS/WhatsApp verification code for logging in

  • How to protect yourself: Never share your phone number to suspicious accounts or someone you don't personally know; never share your SMS/WhatsApp verification code. Remember that DolarApp will never ask for this code to be shared over text, email or phone call

Fake phone call support scam:

  • What: Scammers ask you to call a phone number offering “support" to resolve your case. This shows them your phone number, and then they will try to ask for your SMS/WhatsApp verification code or app passcode on the call

  • How to protect yourself: Never call phone numbers you are not sure of, and never share your SMS/WhatsApp verification code or app passcode. Remember that DolarApp will never call you or ask for a code to be shared over phone call

Fake prize scam:

  • What: Scammers contact you claiming you’ve won a $5 USDc prize, then ask for your phone number and SMS/WhatsApp code to “credit” the prize

  • How to protect yourself: Never share your phone number to suspicious accounts or someone you don't personally know; never share your SMS/WhatsApp verification code

Fake payment verification scam:

  • What: Scammers pretend to be from DolarApp and ask you to “verify” your card details by sharing them over message to resolve a blocked transaction or to process a fake refund/prize. They may alternatively send you a link to a fake website that looks like DolarApp, where they ask you to enter your card details

  • How to protect yourself: Never share your full card number, CVV, PIN, or expiry date. They are private to you and DolarApp would never ask for them

The scammers' goal is always the same — to trick you into giving away your information. If you receive a suspicious message or call, ignore it and report it to us immediately.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us through the in-app support chat or help@dolarapp.com.
