Taxes on Brazilian Cards

Everything you need to know about taxes when using brazilian cards

Updated over 3 weeks ago

In Brazil, we offer two types of cards, each with specific taxes:

💳 Local Card (uses BRL balance):

  • In Brazil: No taxes when using this card. ✅

  • Abroad: A government tax of 3.5% applies to each transaction, plus the card network’s exchange rate (e.g., Mastercard).

🌐 Global Card (uses USDc balance):

  • Abroad: Uses your USDc balance purchased with the same 3.5% tax (IOF), but with the best exchange rate on the market (0.12%). Ideal for international travel. ✈️

📈 IOF Tax (Tax on Financial Operations):

  • 3.5%: When converting BRL (reais) to USDc

  • 0.38%: When converting USDc to BRL and vice versa

  • 3.5%: Applied when using the Local Card outside Brazil

In addition to the tax, a commission (spread) is always applied — in DolarApp’s case, it’s 0.12%, the lowest on the market.
