A quick summary of everything you need to know about Pix

Updated over a week ago

What is Pix?

Pix is an instant payment system in Brazil. It allows money to be transferred between accounts in just a few seconds, without time or day restrictions. Pix is fast, secure, and can be used for various payments like card payments, boleto payments, cash withdrawals, and scheduling transfers.

With Pix, you don’t need to know which bank the recipient uses—just their Pix Key. Additionally, Pix allows QR code scanning, and both the sender and recipient are notified when the transaction is completed.

Pix Key

A Pix Key is an identifier for your bank account or digital wallet, chosen by the user. You can create up to 5 keys for a personal account and up to 20 keys for a business account. The allowed Pix Keys are:

  • CPF/CNPJ (Brazilian ID number or company registration)

  • Mobile phone number

  • Email address

  • Random Key (a sequence of numbers and letters generated by the Central Bank)
